The desert city of Bhuj has a history dating back to the rule of the Naga chiefs, the Jadeja Rajputs, the Gujarat Sultans, and the British Raj. It was named after a big snake "Bhujang", that lived on a hill named Bhujiyo Hill.

The city lies in the Kutch district of Gujarat. Bhuj is one of the unique historical sites in India, with numerous temples, small streets, and traditional handicrafts. There are lots of historic attractions here, like the 2000-year-old Kshatrapa inscriptions in the Kutch Museum, the bell tower of Prag Mahal, the hall of mirrors in the Aina Mahal, the sculptures in Ramakund stepwell, and the beautiful Hamirsar lake. Bhuj serves as a stopover to explore the remote areas of Kutch. There is an airport that sees daily flights from Mumbai.
