Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. Munnar has numerous tea plantations, picturesque towns, various Sanctuaries, and National Parks. Located at 1600 meters (5,200 ft) above sea level, this popular hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India.
Munnar, rich with flora and fauna, has it's few hills covered with flowers Neelakurinji which blossoms once in 12 years. It blossomed last in 2006 and 2018. The hill station also has the highest peak in South India - Anamudi, which towers over 2,695 meters. Anamudi is a great spot for trekking. Located 45 min drive away from Munnar and a UNESCO world heritage site, the Eravikulam National Park is a habitat for a rich and diverse variety of flora and fauna. It is quite famous for the endangered species of mountain goats called the Nilgiri Tahr.
Munnar is also blessed with natural viewpoints apart from the tea plantations. Dotted with numerous tea estates and spice plantations, Munnar is one of the biggest tea plantation regions in South India. It is also called the "Kashmir of South India" and is a popular honeymoon destination.
