Situated at the foothills of the Himalayas in the plains of Darjeeling District by the side of River Mahananda, is Siliguri- The Gateway to North East. It is the 2nd largest city in West Bengal. Siliguri lies 35 kilometers away from its twin city, Jalpaiguri. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (toy train) which runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling, was built between 1879 and 1881. This rail route is designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bagdogra Airport is an international airport located towards the west of Siliguri city. This airport is a major transport hub in the region with flights connecting Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, and Dibrugarh, and has international connectivity with Paro and Bangkok.
