Renowned as the wettest place on Earth, Mawsynram is a village in Meghalaya state, located 65 kilometers from Shillong. Mawsynram is situated at an altitude of about 1,400 meters (4,600 ft), 15 km west of Cherrapunji.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Mawsynram received 26,000 millimeters (1,000 in) of rainfall in 1985. It is a nature lover's delight and the perfect destination for a weekend trip or a day trip from Shillong.
Tourists frequently visit this place wherein they take pleasure in the steep, sliding slopes, the fresh air, the rolling green mountains, and the deafening but beautiful waterfalls. There is a cave in Mawsynram called the Mawjymbuin Cave which is one of the well-known caves in Meghalaya. This cave, due to years of weathering and dripping of mineralized solutions and deposition of calcium carbonate, has thus given rise to some magnificent stalagmites.
