Ajmer-Pushkar

Ajmer an oasis surrounded by Aravalli Mountains and is a pilgrimage centre for the shrine of the Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti; revered by both Hindu and Muslims.

Ajmer is also is the base for visiting the holy city of Hindus, Pushkar (means a pond created by flower) an ancient Hindu pilgrimage city, famous for temple of Brahma; one of the few in India.

Pushkar is held in high regards among Hindus and is considered one of the five Dhams (Abodes) of India. It has many temples with trace of their ancient origin.

Ajmer was founded in the 7th century B.C.E. by Ruler Ajay Pal Chauhan, the city was later invaded by Mughals.

The city was famous for its prestigious educational institutes since British ruled India, it was the region known to be directly controlled by British East Indian Company after the overtook it from the Scindias Maratha Clan.
