Situated in the south-western region of the state of Maharashtra, Ratnagiri is a gorgeous port city on the Konkan coast of the Arabian Sea.
Valleys in the region are very fertile making it major producer of rice, coconuts, cashew nuts, and mangoes. It also has an important fishing industry, in 1958 the Marine Biological Research Station (MBRS) was also established in Ratnagiri.
Ratnagiri is blessed with magnificent hills, tranquil seashore, beautiful rivers, hot water springs and waterfalls; this scenic landscape is a mix of natural beauty, pilgrimage and historical monuments like ancient forts, caves, temples and monuments.
